What is “Rendezvous”?
In short, Rendezvous is a celebration, and we have fun when we celebrate the past. Going back in history, from 1825 to 1840, the official Rendezvous were pre-planned meetings by fur companies looking to buy from company men and free trappers, who had been trapping beaver and otter all Winter. When all of these individuals came together, more than money and furs were exchanged. These events were a time for fun and games, and we in the modern era put on a fun event yearly to celebrate the types of activities these men and women of the past would have done.
A primitive camp is a little different than a modern encampment, but we strive to stay within the historical period before 1840’s. If it was invented before 1840, then it is generally acceptable for a primitive rendezvous. Some take being primitive to a strict level, but most would be considered acceptable primitive. The PPR rules clarify what is considered acceptable.
