A Tip for "stepping back in time"
The Pacific Primitive Rendezvous is an historic reenactment of a rendezvous of the fur trade era. We try for authenticity in all aspects of the event. I have heard over the years that; this sport is going to die, that we need to make concessions to one group or the other, that we need a “public day” so that towns people can come in and see what’s up, maybe join-in. I do understand why some concern themselves with this way of thinking and I too want PPR to continue, BUT I agree with the founding members “to lower the requirements and standards of our event does a disservice to everyone, including those whom these changes were supposed to help. People appreciate something they had to work for, give it to them, and you’ve given them nothing”.
This year PPR is being held on the land of Jack and Teresa Southworth. These gracious and generous landowners have hosted PPR’s in past years and are excited about 2019. In the spirit of Rendezvous, we intend to occupy a different portion of their property and discover new camp sites and shooting ranges. We have a great staff ready to host a fun-filled and challenging event as we step back in time. I will post additional information as we go forward so that you can familiarize yourselves with camp and trade rules as well as highlights of all the other activities we have planned.
One of the founding members put it best, “It was to give people the opportunity to attend a quality PRIMITIVE event!! This event was designed to be a REWARD for those who had put up with the run of the mill local ‘shoots‘ where primitive was often sneered at, and the game was shoot-shoot-shoot. This event was never intended to appeal to everyone, it was intended to appeal to the PRIMITIVE BUCKSKINNERS. It was hoped that it would be CHALLENGING EVEN TO THEM! There was never any discussion about caving in and making it easier on the pilgrims, the pilgrims weren’t suppose to be there! This was the original goal.
