Welcome to the Pacific Primitive 2018 Rendezvous

I want to introduce you to the La Grande Rondy along with the staff and participants.

First, the site we’ve picked is important to the history of the fur trade and beyond.  It was a gathering place for the Umatilla tribes for hunting and fishing.  The area was also a meeting spot for both the Hudson Bay Company and the American Fur Company with the Native Americans. Later, it became an important jump off point into the Blue Mountains for immigrants on the Oregon Trail.  We’ve put together a great program for you already and hope it’s to your liking.

Lee Johnson is your Shooting Chief and already has the shooting program ready with plenty of time to expand it.  The local La Grande Rifle and Pistol Club is a great asset along with participation from other clubs.  There will be plenty of time for everyone to shoot and play.

There are three creeks running through the property, giving everyone access to water (not potable).  Potable water is available a few miles down the road at Hilgard Junction State Park to fill your containers.  Speaking of the State Park, early campers can stay at the park for $10, share with your friends for an additional $5.

The Rondy site has a designated creek for Horse Camp along with great camp sites.  Marvin Simonson is our Horse Camp Chief.  There are three staging areas for packing in and will post the GPS Coordinates (longitude and latitude) on the website at a later date.

The purser is Midge Oliver.  Get your registrations in early so we can plan camp spots accordingly.

Pictures of the location and site will be posted soon.  More history will be told of the cultural significance of this site so you can plan on learning more and maybe put on a seminar about the characters of the period.  Cat Wahrenback[sic] is the Seminar Chief.

More introductions will be made later.  More history along with more event listings will also be posted later.  Look forward to a fantastic Rondy with easy access by freeway from the North, South, East and West.

For now, plan the best journey into the past and register early!

The Booshway

Hello Buckskinners:

The history of the site is well documented and includes, just to name a few, such names as William Price Hunt, Pierre Dorion, Marie Dorion, Robert Stuart, Captain Bonneville, John C. Fremont and probably Peter Skene Ogden.  But equally, if not more importantly, were the Umatilla peoples.  For that matter the people of that Nation has been doing restoration work on the creeks running into the Grande Ronde.  We celebrate that work and respect it.  We’ve invited them to participate.

Do your homework and put together a seminar!

Feel free to volunteer, as a Rendezvous of this caliber doesn’t just put itself on.  All the volunteers would like a break during the week and an hour of time out of your week would be greatly appreciated.  Makes for a happy camp!

As I’ve said before there are three creeks on the site, but because of ecological work being done in areas restrictions may apply.  A water truck will be on site with potable water but plan on filling up initially at the State Park sites.  In case of overflow at Hilgard Junction State Park, there is additional camping 6 miles from the site at Red Bridge State Park on Hwy. 244.
There is supposedly fire wood available from the landowner.  No wood gathering or cutting allowed without permission.  I’ll keep you informed.  Wood at the State Park is cheap.

Looking forward to great raffles, including a gun raffle, shooting bags and horns, artwork, stationary and more.  Planning to put on raffles that include your going to camp meetings, state meetings, seminars, etc. so keep your eyes open.
A unique Rendezvous is being planned for you, and good times will be had by all!
